12-06-13 - WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT

Dec 06, 2013 -- 7:27am

A WINTER STORM WARNING IS STILL IN EFFECT FOR JACKSON AND JOSEPHINE COUNTIES BEGINNING AT 7 O CLOCK THIS MORNING THROUGH 4AM TOMORROW.  THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAYS MOST SNOW ACUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED BETWEEN 9 AND 11 AM TODAY.  THEY SAY 3-6 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ABOVE 1,000 FEET.  WITH 8-10 INCHES POSSIBLE ABOVE 3000 FEET.  THE ELEVATION AT THE MEDFORD AIRPORT IS 1,335 FEET.

THE JACKSON COUNTY ROADS DEPARTMENT IS READY TO GO.  THE FIRST SNOW PLOW SHIFT BEGAN AT FOUR THIS MORNING.   IT'S A DAY THE COUNTY ROADS DIRECTOR SAYS THEY'VE BEEN PREPPING FOR--     FOR MONTHS.   IF YOU'RE HITTING THE ROAD TODAY.  WE HAVE A FEW TIPS TO MAKE SURE YOU GET TO YOUR DESTINATION SAFELY.   THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS AS OF YET, BUT BE PREPARED WITH CHAINS IN YOUR VEHICLE.   YOU SHOULD  ALSO KEEP BLANKETS, WATER AND SOME FOOD IN YOUR CAR, IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES.   GIVE YOURSELF EXTRA ROOM BETWEEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU...    AND GIVE *YOURSELF* EXTRA TIME TO GET TO YOUR DESTINATION.
