12-27-13 OSP REPORTS A FATALITY FREE CHRISTMAS DRIVING HOLIDAY

BASED ON PRELIMINARY FINDINGS- THIS CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY WAS TRAFFIC FATALITY FREE IN OREGON. THE 30 HOUR REPORTING PERIOD BEGAN AT 6PM ON CHRISTMAS EVE, AND ENDED AT MIDNIGHT CHRISTMAS. IF THE INFORMATION HOLDS TRUE, THIS WAS ONLY THE SECOND FATALITY FREE CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY SINCE 1970, THE OTHER OCCURING IN 1996. THE DEADLIEST HOLIDAY PERIOD WAS IN 1983 WHEN 10 WERE KILLED IN HOLIDAY CRASHES. THE OSP, OREGON SHERIFFS, OREGON CHIEFS OF POLICE AND ODOT WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL DRIVERS FOR SHOWING ZERO TOLLERANCE FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.
