A 30-year-old transient is in jail after assaulting a Grants Pass police officer this week. Police received a call from the Grants Pass Walmart indicating that a male subject was throwing beer near the entrance. Before leaving the store, the man reportedly pushed an employee. Police quickly located the man at a nearby Arby's restaurant and identified him as Christopher Anthony. As he attempted to leave, an officer grabbed his shoulder. Anthony then punched the officer in the face and attempted to gouge his eyes. A second officer deployed his taser to subdue the man. Anthony was arrested without further incident and lodged in the Josephine County Jail on several charges, including criminal mischief, assault on a public safety officer and resisting arrest.
