Two ponds at the Jackson County Sports Park in White City are being drained in an attempt to kill off Chinese mystery snails and non-native aquarium plants that have taken over. Two years ago, officials applied a chemical treatment to the ponds which helped curb the invasive species, but they have rebounded since then. Technicians from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife began draining one of the ponds yesterday afternoon.
