UPDATED at 3pm: A lost skier from Cilloquin was found safe on Mt. Ashland late this morning. 52-year old Carol Koon had last been seen by family Sunday afternoon, as she left to ski "the bowl". The Mail Tribune reports that Koon ended up spending the night in a horse corral before being found safe this morning. She had no cell phone service last night, but this morning was able to call her husband to report that she could hear a search helicopter. Koon was spotted on a forest road on the south side of the mountain about 8 miles out.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a skier who went missing on Mt. Ashland Sunday afternoon. 52-year old Carol Koon from Chiloquin was skiing with her family at Mt. Ashland, and was last seen by her family between 2:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. inside the lodge. Koon told family she was going to ski the “bowl” and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Carol Koon was last seen wearing a black ski coat, black ski pants, red ski boots, orange and yellow skis, and was carrying gray ski poles. She has blondish-gray hair and was wearing sunglasses. Anyone who may have seen this woman after 2:00 p.m. Sunday is asked to call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office 541-774-6800.
