Governor John Kitzhaber is weighing in on Medford's tribal casino controversy. The governor is asking the federal government to reject a proposal by the Coquille tribe to open a casino along South Pacific Highway. In a letter to the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, Kitzhaber says an expansion of casino gambling raises concerns such as increased crime, as well as alcohol, drug and gambling abuse. He also says the proposal violates an agreement that limits casinos to one per tribe.
